When is the best time to go?
October to April, with long days and open trails. Many tours stop in winter, but Perito Moreno can be visited all year round.
What documents do I need to cross into Chile?
Torres del Paine involves a land border crossing. Most visitors need a valid passport; citizens of Mercosur countries can use their national ID card. If you rent a car, ask the agency for the cross-border permit.
How far apart are the destinations?
El Chaltén is about 3 hours from El Calafate. Torres del Paine is about 5 hours away, across the border in Chile.
